Themed photography featuring Maid Marian from Robin Hood

It’s always fun to shoot themed photography, because it created a special story to the photo. For this session I decided to stick with the Maid Marian from Robin Hood. These pictures were all taken inside of a building in a pretty light room with a couple triple bracketed orbs. Lighting can really change the photo, but what really can make photography great is post production. Here I will talk about my editing process to get these pictures.

For this photo I wanted to create a theme of a Maid Marian portrait with some old style background. For my background I used a photo of an asphalt that I took right in front of my house (see photo below). As far as this color effect, I got that by using “color lookup” feature in Photoshop. I’ve used two color presets here: “FallColors.look” and “film stock_50.3dl”. For both of these color presets I’ve used reduced opacity and it created this nice orange style to the photo and some great shadows and contrast.

For this themed photo I’ve used a background that I took from pexels.com, because I wanted to create a shot that would look like a Maiden Mary in the forest in the fog fighting for her life. I’ve also used “color lookup” feature in Photoshop. For this particular one I’ve used three color presets: “TensionGreen”, “EdgyAmber”, and “FoggyNight”. By reducing opacity, adding contrast and sharpening the photo I was able to achieve this result that you see below.

This was another Maid Marian portrait photography theme that I was going for. At the time of taking a picture I was thinking: “what if during the time of Maid Marian they had photoshoots and did headshots?” This Idea brought this photo to life. For this one I’ve also used a background texture that I took myself. It’s a photo of a piece of concrete in Rexburg. I’ve used overlay to blend it with the backdrop that I used to take this photo. I’ve also use “color lookup” feature in Photoshop to give the photo some nice colors. For this one I’ve used “FallColors” and reduced opacity.

This Maid Marian themed photo is telling a story of Marian walking in the forest to find Robin Hood. I’ve used another picture from pexels.com to create this illusion of her walking in the forest. I’ve added light in Lightroom and then took the photo to Photoshop. I’ve used a couple color presets to give it this foggy look and also and amber color.

This photo is a photo that would kind of go with the story of a previous photo. While Marian was walking from her house, the wind was blowing, but she was determined to find Robin. After a couple hours, she gets to that forest and pulls out the light in the forest. For the background of this photo I used a photo I took at the Grand Teton National park (see below). I’ve used a color preset to give it a cold look by using crisp_winterLook preset and also to give it more of a warm look on the fur and the face I’ve used the fall colors preset.

Overall it’s been an awesome project. I’ve really enjoyed it and was pretty impressed how this turned out.
